Over Pentecost Weekend in May, I was blessed to attend the Women's Ordination Conference (WOC) 50th Anniversary Gathering. As I listened to the speakers and participated in conversations, I found myself reflecting on these themes.

On the first Sunday after Pentecost – the Church celebrates the Trinity – God in three manifestations. This year, that happened to also be May 31, the Feast of the Visitation – when Mary and Elizabeth encountered one another – cousins both miraculously pregnant. Through song, readings, and reflection, we will explore the different ways we come to understand and experience God – and we see that presence reflected in The Visitation.

Pentecost is considered the Birthday of the Church. The Holy Spirit – Ruah - God’s breath and flame – are in each of us. The laying on of hands – fans the flame.

This Pentecost, I share a poem I penned while in seminary in response to reading a passage in the book Abounding in Kindness by Elizabeth Johnson.

In Genesis, we read that we are created in God’s image – male and female, so God must have a feminine side. In our service on May 10, we reflected on this side of God.
