Compassion has deep roots in the body, in a mother’s body. This week, we reflect on God's compassion.

On the second Sunday after Pentecost – the Church celebrates the Body and Blood of Christ. Through the centuries – the Church has shifted focus from the people as the body of Christ to the mystical body of Christ in Holy Communion.

On the first Sunday after Pentecost – the Church celebrates the Trinity – God in three manifestations. This year, that happened to also be May 31, the Feast of the Visitation – when Mary and Elizabeth encountered one another – cousins both miraculously pregnant. Through song, readings, and reflection, we will explore the different ways we come to understand and experience God – and we see that presence reflected in The Visitation.

Pentecost is considered the Birthday of the Church. The Holy Spirit – Ruah - God’s breath and flame – are in each of us. The laying on of hands – fans the flame.

This Pentecost, I share a poem I penned while in seminary in response to reading a passage in the book Abounding in Kindness by Elizabeth Johnson.

In Genesis, we read that we are created in God’s image – male and female, so God must have a feminine side. In our service on May 10, we reflected on this side of God.

In honor of National Poetry Month in April, Rev. AndreaGrace penned a 5-senses poem filled with wonder and gratitude. She includes a guide for intergenerational programs focused on poetry.

What begins as a simple soup supper becomes something sacred—voices of gratitude rising, stories shared, and Christ’s presence revealed in one another. As Jews and Christians enter sacred days in the same week, we are invited into a shared story of liberation, remembrance, and transformation. This holy week calls Jews & Christians alike to to slow down, gather in community, and encounter the Divine more deeply. Through prayer, ritual, and reflection, may we rediscover the enduring power of love that frees, renews, and calls us to live more fully.
